Peticure® Pets

Peticure® is the painless, easy, and humane way to care for your dogs nails.

Spending a few days properly introducing peticure® will make a lifetime of ease in giving them proper nail care.

  • Turn on peticure® and give the dog his or her favorite treat at the same time. Put the peticure® filer close to the dog as you give the treat. Praise the dog.

  • Repeat this several times until the dog is comfortable and anticipates the treat.

  • Now get a treat out as usual except this time touch the tip of ONE nail to the peticure® filer. It is important to do only one nail. Treat the dog and or play afterwards. Always condition your dog with a positive experience after a peticure®.
NOTE: if your dog is completely comfortable at this point, you may attempt a full peticure®.

  • Next try doing one whole paw. Alternate nails, only filing for a few seconds on each nail. Make sure you reward the dog with a treat after the peticure®.

  • Your dog should be comfortable at this point. If not, there is a position to hold the pet that works well.
  • How To Hold Your Pet

  • If you pet is comfortable with getting a peticure® there are a variety of comfortable positions. The pet may sit on your lap, lay on his or her side, or lay them on their back.

  • However , if your dog is still squeamish after the before mentioned introduction phase, there is a position that works the best.

  • Lay the pet on his stomach on the floor or across your lap and position yourself over the top. Use the underside of your arm that is reaching around the dog and your body weight to hold the dog. Until your dog is totally comfortable with peticure®, do not try another position except the one previously described.
  • Reach around your dog and begin to peticure® a nail.

  • If your dog persists or struggles DO NOT LET HIM OR HER GO and win the exchange. If he struggles it will be temporary. You must let him or her know that you are the leader and this is going to be done. The popular show "The Dog Whisperer" is a testament to this crucial point. The dog will realize quickly that the process is painless and your assertiveness will calm her. It cannot be emphasized enough the importance of the way the pet parent holds or positions the dog is in this instance.

  • For the back paws, use the same position. Only now reverse your direction. Flip the back leg out and begin.
